Boosted feeds: your most important sources checked every 10 minutes

Most feeds can wait an hour, but some cannot. Boost the ones where minutes matter and Inoreader polls them every 10 minutes, so their new articles are in your reader before the rest of the web has seen them.

What it does

Inoreader polls millions of feeds, and a feed with Pro subscribers that has published in the last month is checked at least once an hour. For most reading, that is more than enough. For a few sources it is not, such as a wire service, a job board, a status page, a competitor's press room, or a stock or sports feed during an event. When you boost a feed like that, it moves to a 10-minute schedule.

A boost belongs to the feed and is shared. Once one Pro user has boosted a feed, every subscriber gets it on the faster schedule. Feeds that support push are marked Real-time in the feed information. They already deliver their articles as they are published and do not need a boost.

Pro accounts can boost up to 100 feeds. Together with a rule, a boosted feed works as an alert. A new article arrives within 10 minutes, and the rule emails it to you, posts it to Slack or sends you a push notification.

How it works

  1. Open the feed's information dialog from the sidebar, or find the feed in the Feeds list under Preferences, and look at its update interval.
  2. If the feed is not marked Real-time, click the boost icon. The feed is now checked every 10 minutes.
  3. To hear about new articles the moment they arrive, add a rule on the feed with a notification or email action.
  4. Keep track of your boosts in Preferences, under Billing and usage, and remove the ones you no longer need.

What people use it for

Breaking news on your beat

Boost wire and agency feeds while a story develops, and let a rule push the matching articles to your phone.

Job and tender boards

When the first application wins, boost the boards so their listings are checked every 10 minutes instead of every hour.

Status pages and release feeds

Boost the feeds of the vendors your team depends on, and let a rule send their new posts to a Slack channel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often does Inoreader check my feeds?

Every feed with a Pro subscriber that has published in the last 30 days is checked at least once an hour. Feeds that publish often are checked more often, and many publishers push new articles to us the moment they appear. A boosted feed is checked every 10 minutes.

How do I boost a feed?

Open the feed's information dialog from the sidebar, or find the feed in the Feeds list under Preferences, and click the boost icon next to its update interval. The boost applies from the next check.

How many feeds can I boost?

Up to 100 on Pro. You can see how many you have used in Preferences, under Billing and usage.

Does a boost help a feed that already says Real-time?

No. A feed marked Real-time pushes its articles to Inoreader as they are published, which is faster than any polling, so there is nothing to boost.

If someone else boosted a feed, do I get it too?

Yes. Once any Pro user has boosted a feed, it is checked every 10 minutes, and every subscriber of that feed gets the faster updates without spending a boost of their own.

Does boosting put a load on the publisher?

It adds one request every 10 minutes per feed, which is what a single open browser tab does. That is also why boosts are limited per account rather than unlimited.
