Offline mode: your feeds, folders, tags and saved articles on your phone, without a connection
Keep reading on flights, on trains, on the underground or in a cabin without signal. Mark a folder for offline reading and the app keeps it downloaded in the background. Read, tag and save on the way, and your changes sync when you reconnect.

What it does
With offline mode, the Inoreader apps work without a connection. Mark a feed, a folder, a tag or your saved articles as offline, and the app downloads their articles, pictures included. It keeps the download fresh in the background, so when you board, your phone has the latest articles there were.
Reading offline works just like reading online. You can mark articles as read, save them for later and tag them. The app queues each action and syncs it with your account the moment it is back online, so the web and your other devices catch up on their own. Articles that are available offline carry a marker in every list, so you know what will open before you lose the signal.
How it works
- In the iOS or Android app, open the folder, feed or tag you want to take with you.
- Tap the download icon at the top right and confirm. The section is downloaded and marked with a blue arrow in the sidebar.
- Read, tag, save and mark articles as read without a connection. Whenever the app has a connection, it keeps downloading new articles in the background.
- Reconnect and your changes sync. To open the section's offline settings again, tap the download icon.
What people use it for
The commute
Download the morning's folders over wifi at home, read them on the underground and mark them as read on the way. Your changes sync when you arrive.
Flights
Save long reads to Read later during the week and read them in the air. Your notes sync when you land.
Fieldwork and travel
Take a project's feeds to places with no coverage. The app keeps them current whenever your phone finds a network.
Frequently Asked Questions
What can I read offline?
You can read any feed, folder or tag you mark for offline use, as well as your annotations and your saved articles. The app downloads their articles with the pictures, and it keeps downloading new ones in the background as long as the setting is on.
How do I make a section available offline?
Open the folder, feed or tag in the app and tap the download icon in the top right. You can also swipe the section in the sidebar on iOS, or long-press it on Android, and choose Make offline. A blue arrow in the sidebar marks what is available offline.
Can I do things with articles while offline?
Yes. You can read, mark as read, save for later and tag as usual. The app queues your changes and syncs them with your account as soon as it is online again.
Does full content download too?
Yes, for the articles whose full content you loaded. Articles are stored the way they are in your account, so an article you opened in full downloads whole, pictures included.
Is it on the web?
No. Offline mode is a feature of the iOS and Android apps. The web app needs a connection.
How much space does it take?
It takes as much space as the sections you mark. Keep your offline set to the folders you read on the move, and the app manages the rest.
