Read later: save articles and web pages, and read them when you have time

What it does

Read later is your reading list in Inoreader. When you come across an article you want to read properly, click the Save icon or press F, and the article goes into Read later under Saved in the sidebar. Inoreader remembers how far you read each article, so you can click Continue reading at the top of the list to see the ones you started and have not finished. Inoreader can also email you a short reminder of the articles you saved a few days earlier, and you can turn it off under Preferences, Emails from Inoreader. With Pro, a rule can save the articles that match your conditions to Read later as they arrive, and the full content you load for an article stays with it.

You can also save pages that are not in your feeds. With the Inoreader browser extension, you save the page you are reading with one click, and on your phone you share the page to the Inoreader app. Inside Inoreader, open Read later, click Add and paste a web address, and Inoreader shows you a preview before it saves the page. Your saved pages are collected under Saved, Web pages, and a page you add from inside Inoreader also goes into Read later.

When you finish an article, click Move to Archive. The article leaves Read later but stays in your account under Saved, Archive, so your list holds only what you still want to read and nothing you finished is lost. To empty the list in one step, click Archive all. This Archive is the collection of articles you chose to keep. It is not the history of your feeds, which Inoreader keeps for every feed you follow whether you save anything or not.

How it works

  1. Click the Save icon on any article, or press F, to add it to Read later.
  2. To save a page from outside your feeds, use the browser extension, share the page to the Inoreader app on your phone, or open Read later, click Add and paste its address.
  3. Open Saved, then Read later, and click Continue reading to return to the articles you started.
  4. When you finish an article, click Move to Archive. To bring it back, open Archive and click the Save icon on it.

What people use it for

A reading list for the evening

During the day, press F on the long reads you have no time for, then open Read later in the evening. You can also set Read later as your start page, so your list is the first thing you see.

Collecting pages from beyond your feeds

Save the articles you find through search, social media or a colleague's link with the browser extension. They sit in the same list as the articles from your feeds, so you read everything in one place.

Keeping what you finished

Move each article to the Archive when you are done with it. Read later stays short, and the articles you valued stay in your account, where you can search for them later.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I save an article to read later?

Click the Save icon on an article in the list or in the article view, or press F while the article is selected. The article goes into Read later, which you find under Saved in the sidebar.

Can I save a page that is not in my feeds?

Yes. Save the page you are reading with the Inoreader browser extension, or share it to the Inoreader app from your phone. In Inoreader, you can also open Read later, click Add and paste the page's address. Saved pages are listed under Saved, Web pages.

What is the difference between Read later and the Archive?

Read later holds the articles you still want to read. When you finish one, click Move to Archive, and it leaves your list but stays in your account under Saved, Archive. This Archive is your own collection of finished articles and is separate from the history of your feeds, which Inoreader keeps for every feed you follow.

Can I bring an article back from the Archive?

Yes. Open Archive and click the Save icon on the article to move it back to Read later. To remove an article from the Archive for good, click the delete icon on it.

Can I search my saved articles and read them offline?

Yes. You can search Read later, the Archive and your saved web pages the same way you search a feed or a folder. With Pro, you can also make your saved articles available offline in the iOS and Android apps.

Is there a limit, and how long are saved articles kept?

Read later, the Archive and saved web pages are free on every plan, and there is no limit on how many articles you save. An article stays in Read later until you remove or archive it, and the Archive keeps it until you delete it.
