How do I follow a Google News search?

Click Add feed in the tab bar, choose Google News feed, type your search and press Enter. Inoreader shows the latest Google News results with a Follow button, and the followed search then arrives as a feed like any other.

Search Google News

  1. Click Add feed in the tab bar and choose Google News feed.
  2. Type a keyword, a name or a phrase in quotes for an exact match, such as "electric vehicles", and press Enter.
  3. Check the results.
  4. Click Follow.
  5. To file the new feed in a folder, right-click it in the sidebar and choose Add to folder. Filter feed in the same menu cuts the noise.

The page's tips name Google's operators: quotes for an exact match of a name, intitle: for words in the title, a minus sign to exclude a word, and AND or OR to combine words. When nothing matches, the page says so and suggests checking the spelling, trying another language or searching the RSS feeds instead.

Click the arrow at the end of the search box (Search filters) to open the box headed "Narrow your search results". Fill in Exact phrase, Has words, Exclude words and Website, pick the Language and the Date, then click Search. The filters write Google's operators into the search box, so the box shows exactly what you search and follow.

The Google News search filters in Inoreader with fields for an exact phrase, words to exclude, a website, the language and the date.

Date limits the results to the past hour, 24 hours, week, month or year, and it stays part of the followed search. Language is the Google News edition, the language and the country together, English (United States) by default, with 87 editions such as English (United Kingdom). Each search and edition is a feed of its own, so a second edition of the same search is a second Follow.

Use the feed

The followed search works like any other feed: file it in folders, add a filter, run rules on it, search it and add it to dashboards. Load full content on an item first resolves Google's link to the publisher's article. What are monitoring feeds? describes the Pro alternative over Inoreader's own feed index.

Keep to a focused set of searches: following a large number of similar Google News feeds counts as abuse under the Terms of Service.

Google News feeds are free on every plan, and each one counts as one of the plan's feeds: 150 on Free, 500 on Supporter and 2,500 on Pro. What types of sources can I follow? lists the other source types, How do I add a feed? covers a plain RSS feed, and the Google News post introduced the feature.
