Monitoring feeds: a feed for every keyword, brand or topic you watch

Turn a search query into a feed, and every new article that matches it is delivered to you automatically. The matches can come from every public source Inoreader follows or only from your own account, and you can add rules, filters and alerts on top, like on any other feed.

What it does

Following feeds covers the sources you know. A monitoring feed covers the ones you do not. It turns a search query into a feed that Inoreader fills from every public feed it follows, which means millions of websites, blogs, news sources and newsletters in many languages. Every new match is delivered into the feed as it is published.

The query can be a single word, a phrase or several of them combined, and you can restrict it to titles or to a language. Instead of the public index, it can also watch your own account, including your feeds, a folder, your tags, your saved articles, annotations and uploads. The result is a feed like any other. You can put it in a folder, filter it, run rules on it and search it later.

Alerts and monitoring in Inoreader are built on monitoring feeds. The feed collects the articles, rules decide what to do with each match, and digests summarize the day.

How it works

  1. Open Add feed and choose Monitoring feed. You can also run an article search and click the plus button next to the query to save it.
  2. Build the query from the keywords and phrases to match, using "all", "any" and "none" groups. If you want, limit it to titles or to a language.
  3. Choose the scope, either all public feeds Inoreader follows or only your own account.
  4. Review the matching articles and create the feed.
  5. When a match should reach someone at once, add a rule for alerts or forwarding. If the results drift over time, edit the query.

What people use it for

Brand and competitor monitoring

Create a feed for each brand name, each product and each competitor. A rule pushes every new match to the communications team's channel, and everyone else gets a weekly digest.

Research on a topic

Create a feed for a disease, a regulation, a technology or a region. It collects articles from sources you would never have found to follow, and you can still search them months later.

Mentions of your own content

Watch your company, your authors or your campaign names across the public index, the way media monitoring services do, but inside the reader you already use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a monitoring feed?

It is a feed built from a search query. You write a query with keywords, a brand, a competitor or a phrase, and Inoreader turns it into a feed. The feed collects every new article that matches, from the moment you create it and for as long as you keep it.

Where does it search?

You choose. It can search all the public feeds Inoreader follows, which means millions of websites, blogs and news sources in many languages. Or it can search only inside your own account, including your feeds, folders, tags, saved items, annotations and uploads.

How is it different from Google Alerts?

It searches feeds, not web pages, so it catches articles as they are published rather than when a crawler finds them. The results arrive as a feed you can filter, tag, forward, automate and search, not as an email. You can also edit the query at any time without starting over.

Can I get an alert when something new matches?

Yes. Add a rule to the monitoring feed, and it sends a push notification, a desktop alert, an email or a message to a Team channel, Slack, Microsoft Teams or a webhook the moment an article arrives.

Can I refine the query later?

Yes. Right-click the feed and edit the search query. The feed keeps its history and collects articles by the new query from then on.

How many monitoring feeds do I get?

The Pro plan includes 30 monitoring feeds, and more are available as an add-on. Team and Team Intelligence plans include monitoring feeds too, pooled across the whole team.
