Find coverage beyond the sources you know

Following feeds covers the sources you know, and a monitoring feed covers the ones you do not. It turns a search into a feed that Inoreader fills as new matches are published.

Millions of sources

The feed is filled from the public feeds Inoreader collects, which means websites, blogs and news sources in many languages, from every feed that at least three people follow down to only the most popular sites.

Precise queries

Match a word or a phrase, add alternatives with OR, terms that must also appear with AND and the terms to exclude with NOT, and limit a keyword to titles or to content.

Searches in your own account

Instead of the public index, watch everything you follow, one folder or one feed, or a Team folder on a Team plan.

Folders, filters and rules

Put it in a folder, remove duplicates with a filter, run rules on it and search it later.

Create a monitoring feed

  1. Open Add feed and choose Monitoring feed. You can also run an article search and click Create monitoring feed next to the result count to save it.
  2. Build the query from the keywords and phrases to match, with + OR for an alternative, + AND for something that must also appear and - NOT for what to exclude. If you want, limit a keyword to titles or to content.
  3. Choose the scope, either all public feeds Inoreader follows or only your own account.
  4. Review the matching articles and create the feed.
  5. When a match should reach someone at once, add a rule for alerts or forwarding. If the results drift over time, edit the query.

Use cases

Brand and competitor monitoring

Create a feed for each brand name, each product and each competitor. A rule pushes every new match to the communications team's channel, and everyone else gets a weekly digest. When a publisher revises an article about you, its edit history shows what changed.

Research on a topic

Create a feed for a disease, a regulation, a technology or a region. It collects articles from sources you would not have found on your own, and you can still search them months later.

Mentions of your own content

Watch your company, your authors or your campaign names across the public index, the way media monitoring services do, but inside the reader you already use.

Build alerts on a monitoring feed

Alerts and monitoring in Inoreader are built on monitoring feeds. The feed collects the articles, rules decide what to do with each match, and digests summarize the day.

Frequently asked questions

What is a monitoring feed?

It is a feed built from a search query. You write a query with keywords, a brand, a competitor or a phrase, and Inoreader turns it into a feed. The feed collects every new article that matches, from the moment you create it and for as long as you keep it.

Where does it search?

You choose. It can search the public feeds Inoreader collects, which means millions of websites, blogs and news sources in many languages, from every feed that at least three people follow down to only the most popular sites. Or it can search only inside your own account, which means everything you follow, one folder or one feed.

How is it different from Google Alerts?

It searches feeds, not web pages, so it catches articles as they are published rather than when a crawler finds them. The results arrive as a feed you can filter, tag, forward, automate and search, not as an email. You can also edit the query at any time without starting over.

Can I get an alert when something new matches?

Yes. Add a rule to the monitoring feed, and it sends a push notification, a desktop alert, an email or a message to a webhook the moment an article arrives. On a Team plan, it can also send the article to a Team channel and on to the Slack or Microsoft Teams channel connected to it.

Can I refine the query later?

Yes. Right-click the feed, choose Edit monitoring feed and change the query. When you save, the feed's current articles are replaced with up to 20 matches of the new query from the past year, and new matches arrive from then on. Stars and tags on the removed articles move to the original articles in their own feeds.

How many monitoring feeds do I get?

The Pro plan includes 30 monitoring feeds, and more are available as an add-on. Team and Team Intelligence plans include monitoring feeds too, and new Team plans pool them across the whole team.
