Push notifications: hear about the articles that matter on your phone and your desktop
You do not need to keep checking your feeds for the few articles that cannot wait. Set up a rule once, and Inoreader notifies you on your phone or on your computer when a matching article arrives.
See pricing- FreeOn every plan, you can send any article to your phone as a push notification with Send to device.
- ProPro adds push notifications and desktop alerts from rules, and Pro includes 30 rules.
- TeamTeam plans add notifications for articles shared in Team channels and for comments and mentions from your teammates.
What it does
Some articles cannot wait until you next open your reader, such as a mention of your company, a security advisory or a new listing on a job board. With a rule, you tell Inoreader which articles those are, and Inoreader notifies you when one arrives. The Push mobile notification action sends the article to the Inoreader app on your iPhone or Android phone. The notification shows the article's title, the feed it came from and its picture, and you can add a prefix of your own to the text. When you tap it, the article opens in the app.
The Show desktop alert action notifies you on your computer instead. While Inoreader is open in a browser tab, the alert appears as a browser notification with the feed's name and the article's title, and you can click it to open the article. One rule can do both, and the same rule can also email the article to you or trigger a webhook.
Rules can watch any feed, folder or monitoring feed, so you can be alerted about a single source or about every new article that matches the keywords of a monitoring feed. A boosted feed with a rule works well as an alert, because Inoreader checks a boosted feed every 10 minutes. Separately from rules, the bell at the bottom of the left sidebar opens Notifications, where Inoreader lists comments, mentions, articles shared in your Team channels and messages about your account.
How it works
- Install the Inoreader app on your iOS or Android device and sign in to your account.
- Open Automate, then Rules, and click Create rule, or choose Create rule from the menu of a feed, folder or monitoring feed.
- Choose the feeds the rule watches and the conditions an article must match, such as a keyword in its title.
- Add the action Push mobile notification, Show desktop alert or both. For desktop alerts, click Enable notifications if your browser has not allowed them yet.
- Save the rule, and Inoreader notifies you about every new article that matches it.
What people use it for
Brand and competitor alerts
Create a monitoring feed for your company's name and add a rule that sends a push notification for every new match. You hear about coverage while it is still news, without checking the feed throughout the day.
Sources where minutes matter
Boost the feeds of a wire service, a job board or a vendor's status page and add a rule with a push notification. Inoreader checks those feeds every 10 minutes and tells you when something new appears.
Alerts on your desk
If you keep Inoreader open in a browser tab while you work, a rule with a desktop alert shows matching articles on your screen without taking you away from what you are doing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where do push notifications arrive?
Push notifications are delivered by the official Inoreader apps for iOS and Android. Inoreader sends each notification to every device where you are signed in to the app, so make sure notifications for Inoreader are allowed in your device's settings.
How do I get a notification for new articles from one feed?
Open the menu of the feed, choose Create rule and add the action Push mobile notification. Add conditions, such as a keyword in the title, if you only want to hear about some of its articles, and enter a prefix if you want to recognize the rule's notifications at a glance.
What is the difference between a push notification and a desktop alert?
A push notification goes to the Inoreader app on your phone or tablet. A desktop alert is a notification from your web browser, and it appears while Inoreader is open in a browser tab on your computer.
Why did a desktop alert not appear?
Desktop alerts need Inoreader open in a browser tab and your browser's permission to show notifications, which you give with the Enable notifications link next to the action. The tab checks for new alerts every few minutes, and it does not show them while you are looking at Inoreader. When many alerts are waiting, it shows the five newest.
Can I send a single article to my phone?
Yes, on every plan. Open the article's menu, choose Send to device and pick your phone or tablet. Inoreader sends the article as a push notification, and you can tap it to read the article in the app.
Do I get notified about activity in my team?
Yes, on Team plans. In the menu of a Team channel, you choose whether to be notified about new shared articles and about comments. Inoreader also notifies you when a teammate mentions you in a comment or comments on an article you shared.
